Buying a Home Doesn’t Feel the Way People Expect
Most people think buying a home is supposed to feel exciting.
But most buyers I’ve worked with don’t feel that way.
They start out feeling unsure.
Stressed.
And honestly… a bit disappointed.
And it’s not because of the market.
It’s because of what they’ve been told.
This Isn’t the “Canadian Dream” Anymore
We’ve all heard it—the Canadian dream of homeownership.
But that’s not why most people are buying anymore.
They’re buying because:
- They don’t want to keep paying rent
- They want control over where they live
- They don’t want to worry about being served notice to vacate
Or they feel like—because they’re being told—that if they don’t buy right now, they’ll be priced out forever.
This isn’t a dream.
This is pressure.
Where the Industry Gets It Wrong
Then something else happens.
Agents repeat lines they’ve been fed—
from “coaches” and managing brokers who don’t actually understand the market.
The big one?
“Your home is your biggest asset.”
It sounds smart.
It’s really just a marketing gimmick.
How That One Line Changes Everything
The moment buyers hear that, everything shifts.
Now it’s not about finding a place to live.
It’s about not making a mistake.
So what happens?
People start overanalyzing everything.
They think about:
- 20% interest rates
- The market crashing in the 90s
- Buying at the peak in 2022
Even if today is different, those are the stories that stick.
So instead of making a decision…
They freeze.
The Real Problem No One Talks About
Here’s the part nobody mentions:
Buyers don’t feel bad because they made a bad decision.
They feel bad because reality didn’t match what they expected.
They think:
“I should be able to get this for $750,000.”
But what they actually want…
is a $1,000,000 house.
So when they finally buy something realistic—
it feels like they settled.
Even if they didn’t.
What Buyers Are Actually Afraid Of
People aren’t afraid of buying a home.
They’re afraid of buying the wrong one.
And most agents don’t help with that.
They either:
- Sell the dream
- Or pressure the decision
A Different Approach
I don’t do either.
My job is to show you exactly what’s there—right now.
What a house is actually worth today.
So you can make a decision without guessing.
And without pressure.
Because when you can see clearly—
I don’t need to sell you.
I don’t need to push you.
You make the decision.
And you can feel confident in it.
